THE PARISH: A Glimpse Back -By: Sis. Vicky A. Aguas
The Transfiguration of the Lord’s Parish has humble but great beginnings. It can be recalled that the L&S Subdivision, together with the other villages that now comprise the Parish, used to be within the territory of the Holy Rosary Parish. When the sacred Heart Parish was Established in 1986, with Msgr. Odon Santos as the first Parish Priest, the Chapel of Our Lady of Fatima of the L&S Subdivision became the temporary seat of the Parish The arrangement went on with the assignment of Fr. Larry Sarmiento as the next Parish Priest in January, 1988. The years that followed saw the L&S Subdivision Chapel, Known as Our Lady of Fatima Chapel, as the Parish Seat, with the on-going construction then of the Parish Church at Telabastagan, City of San Fernando. After the inauguration of the Sacred Heart Parish Church on December 14, 1989, the L&S Subdivision continued to be a village of the Parish. The faith of the parishioners grew even deeper as they witnessed the generosity of the Lord through the goodness and love of people who supported the construction of our Parish Church.
The aftermath of the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption included the raging flow of lahar in Bacolor in September, 1995, which covered the whole of Cabalantian, including their Parish Church. Fr. Raffy Dela Cruz then the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, generously and readily opened the doors of Our Lady of Fatima Chapel as a temporary residence of Fr. Ed Musni from Cabalantian. This went on for a while and the residents of L&S Subdivision were happy with the opportunity of encountering and loving God Through others.
It must have been God’s plan that L&S Subdivision be a Parish Seat ! without much difficulty and after a series of consultations of Msgr. Francisco Lansang with the residents of L&S Subdivision, the Archbishop of San Fernando finally inked the creation of the Lord’s Transfiguration Parish with the believers of L&S Subdivision, Villa Angela, Villa Dolores, and Palmera Homes comprising it. Bro. Reynaldo Maun became the First President of the Parish Pastoral Council. The appointment of Msgr. Antonio del Rosario as the First Parish Priest in April, 1996, was truly a gift from the Most High. The Herculean task then of building a Parish Church at L&S Subdivision was on his shoulders, a task he bravely and beautifully carried to completion, supported by the parishioners and friends outside the Parish. Indeed it can be said that no task remains impossible when God is the builder and Msgr. Tony is remembered as His instrument in the realization of that dream of a Parish Church. Now, the Parish Church of the Lord’s Transfiguration stands tall not only as the temple where we come together to worship and thank the Lord but even more, as a living testimony of God’s amazing grace in our midst,
Another blessing came to the Parish with the assignment of the late Msgr. Pablo Diaz as the next Parish Priest in August, 2002. He has continued to lead us meet the challenged to grow in holiness together as people of God. To date, he is regularly assisted on weekends by visiting priest, Fr. Nestor Sibug, SVD, and on special celebrations like Christmas and the Holy Week, by Fr. Jose Generoso A. Taqueban, SDB, and Fr. Androncio Pahed Jr.
Our Journey as a Parish continues, and the officers and members of the Parish Pastoral Council, Led by Bro. Arnold Yabut, the PPC President, the Village Pastoral Councils and all of us in this Parish are one in prayer that the Spirit of God may continue to unite us and transform us in His goodness and love.
To God be the glory !
